Berwick upon Tweed History Society


The Berwick History Society is proud of the involvement and working partnership it has with numerous community groups and organisations to promote the history of Berwick, below are the contacts of just some of those groups.

Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office Linda Bankier is the Berwick Archivist and the office is open Wednesday and Thursday  9.30 - 1.00 & 2.00 - 5.00. The Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office holds records relating to the former Borough of Berwick-upon-Tweed  which extended from Berwick, south to Ellingham, west to Ingram and north to Carham on the River Tweed.
"Our Families Project" is part of the Berwick 900 and is looking for local families to be involved

Derek Sharman MBE. From Easter to October Derek provides a programme of walking tours of Berwick-upon-Tweed Town and its unique Elizabethan Ramparts and Bastions. For further details please click on the link.

Berwick Civic Society
Some of the aims of this Society are similar to the History Society, in particular promoting what is good about the history of the town. There is collaborative working with projects and meetings. They managed the Main Guard which is open from June to September inclusive, they provide an annual historical exhibition along with  historical displays and books of Berwick (and the surrounding area) An excellent Town Map has been produced and along with recent interpretation panels in the town.

Heritage Open Days in Berwick are co-ordinated by the Civic Society and gives you access to many historical site that are not open and will include a tour or a talk. 2018 it will be on 13 - 16th September. Please check website for details.
